Why Should You Get Security Plus?

Sec+ is an IT certification, so it is obviously good to earn when you want to pursue or improve your IT security career. Also, you may need to get this certification to work in the U.S. government, even though your career is not in IT. Sec+ teaches you more than IT concepts. You can apply what you learn in real life to protect your personal devices. Therefore, if you are interested in security, this certification can be a good option.

How Did I Pass The Security Plus Exam On My First Attempt?

I have taken a few IT certifications before Sec+, but I do not have any experience in cybersecurity. Therefore, it was new to me. I was overwhelmed at first due to tons of security terms. You may feel the same, but you should never give up, otherwise, you will never earn anything in your life, including this certification.

Please read this carefully. Each of you has your own study method, and mine may or may not work for you. You should take what you think is the best for you and apply it to your learning journey.

Before your preparation

You should have a clear mindset about Sec+, so you will know how much energy you are willing to spend. Take a moment and think about these questions.

  1. How badly do you want to earn this certification?
  2. How much time and effort can you put into this certification?
  3. Are you willing to spend money for study materials?
  4. What are your plans if you do not pass the exam?

Sec+ is an intermediate certification that required at least 2 years of IT experience. Therefore, it can be challenging for some of you because they do not design the exam for beginners. You really need to study to nail this certification. If you think you can read the study materials once or twice and pass the exam, you are wrong. It requires a lot of effort, so you really need to have a good mindset and know what you want before studying.

Preparation

Objectives:

It is very important to have an insight into the objectives of Sec+ certification. In other words, you know what topics the exam will cover, so you will know what you should and should not learn. You can easily find Sec+’s objectives on CompTIA’s website.

Study materials:

  1. Professor Messer’s videos on Youtube (Click here to access his videos): I cannot say enough about his videos. They are very easy to understand. You will get a better understanding of security terms in the Sec+ exam after watching all of his videos.

2. Quizlet: I used Quizlet to learn ports. Although I did not have a lot of questions related to ports in my exam, I was glad that I learned them. One question can decide whether you pass or fail. You will never know. Moreover, some people on Reddit said that there were a lot of port questions in their exams, so it is better to prepare and learn them.

After the exam

If you pass, you should reward yourself immediately đŸ™‚

If you fail, do not be upset because you know how the exam was and what you need to learn or review now. I know many people pass after the second or third attempt. Therefore, you are not alone. Just study harder and believe in yourself. You will nail it this time.

I do not spend any money to buy the study materials for Sec+ certification. However, you can buy some books on Amazon or take courses on Udemy. If you need my help with Sec+ certification, please feel free to contact me or schedule a session with me. I will try my best to consult you. If you want, I will send you my notes when I took this certification for free.
