Why do you enjoy cooking? Why do you spend hours in the kitchen? Here are some reasons that you don’t even notice when it comes to cooking.
1. Care
As women, we cook because we simply want to feed our husbands, children, and loved ones. We always think about what they like and dislike to eat, so we can cook for them. Furthermore, we adjust the seasoning to suit their tastes. For example, we like spicy foods, but our kids do not. Obviously, we will not add chili powder to what we are cooking. We usually think about our loved ones’ tastes instead of ours when cooking for them because we care whether they like our food. We pay attention to their reactions to our food and make sure that they are full. If we do not care about our loved ones, we will not cook with our hearts.
2. Happiness
Imagine when you see your husband and children enjoy your food. How do you feel? Do you feel happy? Tiredness and long hours of cooking mean nothing when we hear them say that they love the food or see how they enjoy it. We are happy when our loved ones are happy. There are many ways to make them happy, and cooking is definitely one of them.
3. Love
Have you ever tried to decorate your food before bringing it to the dining table? If the answer is yes, it means you “season” your food with love. We tend to spend more time cooking when we cook with love. We add more herbs to make sure that our food is healthy. Similarly, we reduce spices to suit others’ tastes. We do our best to make our food delicious and even look for new recipes and learn how to cook better. We cannot do all of these without love.
4. Relaxation
Cooking helps us get away from stress and technology (phones and computers), which is one of the good ways to take care of our minds. We focus on what is happening in the kitchen, so we can temporarily forget our problems or negative feelings. Sometimes the best way to get the right answer or good solution to a question or problem is to step away from it and do something else. Cooking is an easy way to do so because we don’t need to think too much if we cook what we have cooked many times. Even if we cook something new, we can distract ourselves from our problems by looking for new recipes or instructions on how to make it. Furthermore, when we are not in a rush, we feel relaxed and enjoy the process of cooking. We sometimes sing or hum in the kitchen without noticing it.
Cooking means more than preparing and cooking food. It means care, happiness, love, and relaxation, which you don’t even notice or know when cooking. Nowadays, we are too busy working and earning money. We sometimes forget simple things such as preparing good meals for whom we love, having dinner with our families, or seeing our kids laugh at the dining table. The heat in the kitchen is like the heat in our hearts. They warm up every time we can cook for our husbands, children, and loved ones.
